NLP from a Rural Craftsman

Most times, people assume NLP is this whole bunch of tools and techniques created that makes one perform like he has been injected with performance steroids or some random high performance spirit has entered the person!
Well, maybe!

But the point is – we miss out on the obvious! The fact that NLP itself evolved by modeling those people who were considered geniuses in their fields… Those that produced results consistently! NLP patterns and techniques are only a systematic assimilation of some of the patterns successful people in the world use!
You unconsciously use a lot of NLP too!

I noticed again today how simple and profound it is when someone uses NLP so naturally when in absolute rapport…
I was strolling around ‘Dilli Haat’ – a place where rural craftsmen display their work for sale… As I lay my hands on these beautiful embroider purses, he said – “Only Rs. 350 ma’am. Kitne piece lenge?” (Meaning: How many pieces will you buy?” and I thought to myself! Wow! What a powerful ‘Presupposition’, that! He delivered with such natural charisma in absolute rapport!

Here we are, Training many many about each of these language patterns and how powerful they are.. And this boy from the rurals spinning language patterns so powerfully in his native language… Impressive, in totality!

There was another lady I picked up some stoles from who spoke about How there’s a lot of handwork on it and it would make me feel rich! Complex Equivalence pattern that!

The question really is – when you already have so much of NLP embedded within you that you may not even realize, how much more awesome can you get when you can power-pack your language, yourself in totality as an instrument to influence just about anybody with just a little more practice baked in along with a whole wealth of awareness of NLP happening all around you!

We see so much of NLP happening around in our everyday lives.
The point, I have learned, is how and when to throw the dart accurately, instead of keep on throwing it all the time.

    its just that the therapy acspet of NLP has so much potential to do so much good in this world and because it is so quick, digestible, and tailored to the individual I truly feel this is something our governments should take a closer look at to maybe even fund some techniques to be incorporated into schools .can you imagine what the next generation would be like if the teachers taught in NLP ways? it would be a step towards true peace, and its what im aiming for in the UK

    Well, I think modeling comes naaturlly. It’s just that most people have forgotten about it. As children, we all knew how to model instinctively. As for therapy, you’re absolutely right. There is a lot more out there tho, that people are not capitalizing on. Modeling upright behavior, discipline, effective politicians (sic), leadership, etc. Therapy IMHO is just a small speck of human capability.

  agreed but I truly feel that its the therapy asecpt of NLP that is going to free the minds of so many. Modelling is fine and all but without the therapy before hand you still leave yourself open to distored perspectives and world views can you imagine someone with bad intent who decided to model excellent individuals? for me modelling is a byproduct after doing the therapy and the therapy is the most important as it clears out alot to make room for real change.

Hi Harini….. its all about the observation and listening the right thing at right time….. NLP has helped us to listen the things which make a great impact in any sale or deal……
after reading above blog we will be ready to listen the people during the deal and sales or even conversation’s.

  Thank you for taking the time to expialn more in depth of what NLP can help and cannot help. The typical step process on the sales of NLP program is a sales technique to attract learners. I really appreciate your theoretical explanations on common NLP techniques out there. It’s through understanding the theory behind NLP that one can internalize the process and utilize on his or her clients. Thank you Stuart! You being an Asian inspires me to take on NLP world.

dont get me wrong i think modelling is fatatsnic and I model myself often to get into certain states when i need them. I just feel that the therapy aspect is so powerful and it really gives ppl a new lease on their lives, a fresh start, like an emotional reset switch ^^ i remember the first time i got rid of the big 5 and how i had to react to pre existing situations as if it was the first time it happend but this time with new learnings and perspectives.

After watching this video a few mnhtos on, what you are saying does make more sense now, but the fact is NLP is about analysing and improving people and their performance does that generalize as being theraphy? Although theraphy is about dealing with mental/emotional issues, improving performance (ie modeling) is just the next step from that.
